Job description :

We are recruiting a Health & Safety Coordinator for our Montreal plant (agri-food sector).

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining and furthering the implementation and administration of the plant's health and safety program, including all aspects of accident prevention.

Duties include managing safety programs, conducting inspections, developing safety policies and training employees on safety procedures.

Responsibilities and main tasks:

  • Coordinate OHS activities, emergency measures, OHS committee, safety training, audits, etc.
  • Develop and implement occupational health and safety policies and procedures, as well as prevention programs.
  • Provide day-to-day advice and support to operations in the application of the OHS program through daily plant visits.
  • Carry out accident or "close past" analyses to ensure corrective measures are put in place.
  • Promote health and safety culture among managers and employees.
  • Promote prevention and the adoption of safe behaviours through communications and activities (prevention campaigns, capsules, articles, etc.) and ensure their dissemination.
  • Provide health and safety training (for new employees, lockouts, etc.) at all levels of the organization.
  • Ensure that health and safety training programs are monitored and updated.
  • Carry out regular inspections of protective equipment and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Actively participate in and lead the OHS committee.
  • Plan the presence of first-aid attendants according to their work schedules and ensure that their certification is up to date.
  • Ensure compliance with fire protection procedures.

Skills and qualifications :

Training/Experience/Skills:

  • Relevant Health and Safety training (Bachelor's degree or certificate)
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years' experience in health and safety in a manufacturing environment (agri-food environment)
  • Field experience in health and safety
  • May receive calls outside normal working hours (occasionally).
  • Functional bilingualism, both oral and written (French and English).
  • Functional Office Suite skills (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
