Job description :
Our client, a well-established business, is looking for a payroll specialist for a two-month contract with the possibility for permanence. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing and processing payroll, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, administering employee benefits, and supporting HR-related activities. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll execution while maintaining compliance with federal and provincial labor laws for Canada. This is a fast-paced, deadline-driven role requiring strong multitasking abilities. Your responsibilities would include:
Payroll Administration:
- Maintain payroll data in ADP Canada, ensure compliance, and coordinate updates with HRHIS.
- Oversee payroll approval and reporting (bi-weekly, month-end, PTO, union reports).
- Handle government inquiries (ROE, CERB) and conduct compliance audits.
Year-End Payroll:
- Manage year-end activities and reports from December to March.
Remuneration & Compensation:
- Manage PTO banks, taxable benefits, bonuses, and respond to employee inquiries.
- Handle Mercer reports, global pension plans, and headcount reporting.
Benefits Administration:
- Ensure accurate remittances, manage benefit documentation, and conduct audits.
HR Support:
- Draft employment letters, onboard new hires, and maintain employee files.
- Oversee Bill 90 compliance and participate in OQLF activities.
Union Relations:
- Manage union bonuses, reports, vacation calculations, and compliance with agreements.
Skills and qualifications :
- BS or BA in Human Resources, Accounting or related field- or equivalent years of relevant and related experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in payroll, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor laws.
- Proficiency in ADP Canada or similar payroll software.
- Strong communication skills in French & English required (both written and verbal).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and business needs.
