Job description :

A manufacturing company based in Montreal is seeking a Production Manager.

Reporting to the Plant Director, you will be responsible for leading the production team and managing human, material, and financial resources efficiently to meet production volume, pace, and quality objectives. Your focus will be on minimizing operational costs, maximizing productivity, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards.

Your key responsibilities will include the following:

Production

  • Set production targets in collaboration with the plant planner and ensure they are met.
  • Supervise production and maintenance supervisors, providing guidance and support in resolving technical and managerial issues.
  • Assign tasks to the production and maintenance teams, setting short- and medium-term priorities.
  • Optimize work-in-progress (WIP) and inventory levels.
  • Ensure a steady supply of general materials and raw inputs for smooth production flow.

Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

  • Collaborate with and support the HSE Manager’s initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of safety and maintain a secure working environment.
  • Implement and monitor health and safety plans.
  • Define, improve, and audit work methods to ensure compliance with HSE standards.
  • Ensure production equipment is functioning properly and tools meet the company's operational standards.

Quality / ISO

  • Define, refine, and control work processes to meet quality standards.
  • Apply all work procedures, instructions, and guidelines.
  • Ensure consistent product quality in line with production standards, technical specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of ISO certifications and the site’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Drive continuous improvement across production areas, in collaboration with supervisors and process scientists.

Management

  • Apply company HR policies, including performance evaluation and disciplinary measures.
  • Recommend actions to improve workplace climate and production quality.
  • Participate in recruiting staff for the department.
  • Communicate company directives and objectives to team members.
  • Plan and organize employee training initiatives.

Skills and qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Metallurgical, Chemical, or Materials).
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • Degree in management or operations management (asset).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing production.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Solid understanding of chemical and metallurgical processes.
  • Proficient in continuous improvement methodologies: Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, preventive maintenance, Six Sigma.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Proficient in HAZOP methodology.
  • Skilled in statistical methods.
